For viewers considering a "cheap" plasma cutter (or welder), best results are achieved when the ground connection is clean. I would have cleaned the ground clamp area(s) in this video to be free of mill scale/rust. A light sanding by hand or a tool is sufficient. These things do work but they leave a rough edge on the metal. Be prepared for grinding and dressing of the final product, for example, I would not consider using a plasma cutter to make a miter joint on a square tube, I would use a miter saw with an abrasive wheel. Also, my Lotus 3500 draws approximately 18A from the 120Vac source when the cutter current was set at 21A. I have all my work bench outlets wired with 10 gauge cable to handle high currents at 120Vac. Lastly, I use an oil free air compressor with a 17 gallon tank dedicated to the plasma cutter. Other shop compressors for air tools are oil based pumps.

Wow, I'm seriously impressed. I'm on Amazon almost daily just checking out their products and I've had doubts about buying plasma cutters that cost 3 times what this one costs. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I'm always worried about their packaging due to the shippers lack of care, but it even looked to be packaged with care.

Great video thanks. You mentioned that the "metric system reared its ugly head again"! Are you really sure that the thread on the airline is metric as they are not metric over here in the UK, they are 1/4" BSP (British Standard Pipe thread) which seem to be a standard used extremely widely across the world, these are not metric (they are imperial). BSP female threads are always parallel threads but the male threads can be parallel, in which case you need PTFE tape for high pressure, or they can be tapered threads which are great for high pressures especially when used with PTFE. I beleive that the USA uses an NPT National Pipe Thread for pipes which were never intended to be compatible with BSP but some people do try and conenct the two as there are some similarities with the threads cut in inches. Do you know whether it is possible to install a pilot arc torch to those cheap high frequency start machines?

Hey I'm not sure 100% duty cycle means that it can be run 100% rated for an eight hour shift. I believe this means the duty cycle of the DC chopper circuit inside which means it's able to 'chop' (rectify) and convert the AC waveform to 100% output of DC current. As you mention a 25A circuit it's able to output 25A DC. Still I think this is a dubious claim because there would be losses in such a circuit as this. I think this thing would thermal overload if run @ 100% rate for even an hour.

The metric system is GREAT you're just too lazy to learn it! Every other Country in the world uses it except lazy Americans! "The metric system is commonly referred to as the International System of Units, as it is used by virtually all countries in the world. Interestingly, three countries in the world do not use the metric system, (despite its simplicity) and universal use. These are Myanmar, the United States, and Liberia." say what?

You missed the most important thing about cheap welders and plasma cutters. You almost got it but then missed it. The short power cord, which is easily solved with an extension lead. The thing you never mentioned and is the most important thing is the length of the torch. If it is too short you would have to drag the unit all around the job. Which is a total pain. The minimum length should be 3 metres at least. Otherwise do not buy it. If you need a toy go ahead but don't expect to get much work done. (By the way I just checked your link it is 110V. Useless in rest of the world which uses 240V but hey, your American what would you know about the rest of the world)
