The hole in the device at the bottom is for longer pieces of kindling if you so desire. You can put the device on a bass that matches the hole in the bottom of the device. I recommend a stump twice the diameter of the device where you can hollow out the center of it to match the hole in the bottom of the device for longer kindling

I was going to tell you about this but kept putting it off and for got. Then I saw this and I was happy because my wife got me one last season and half threw this one and love it. Now mine is made in Australia but it is just like the one you have in fact if you look closely so is yours. It works great and I haven’t hit my hand or almost cut off my thumb, long story . The wife said it is cheaper than sewing my thumb back on and she doesn’t have to hear me whining which I am sure I never do. I wouldn’t be afraid of recommending this tool at all 1st it works great ! 2nd I’m a guy and not afraid of anything....well maybe the wife and sharp pointy needles the Doc has ..... Thanks Cody for keeping us up to date with good and bad tools,

Pretty cool splitter. You could make a box that's a little high up and jigsaw a hole out that's the size of the hole at the bottom of the splitter that way It would work with taller pieces. It doesn't even need to have side panels just a box frame that way you could still get the wood out.

You could make a base with a hole in the center that you can bolt down to. It’ll give you that extra length you wanted and also catch the kindling when it drops.

Mounted over a 16" Wide × 24" High Concrete/Steel Base with Dual Side Access would make this "BEAUTIFUL" to use! Or have the ability to add/subtract an X-Blade for Dual Splitting on Larger Material would make this "THE KING OF KINDLING"!

Never had an issue and it has worked amazing. BTW: you can even file a nice edge on the cutting blade. Thank yo for a nice video!

You could use quick release pipe clamp parts OR set bolts with a long steel handle welded onto them for quick secure tightening OR pipe collars with hardened hitch pins passing through them and the pipe frame.
